We have that opportunity now, and I’ll talk a little further in a bit about that. Imagine if you had family photos from 200 years ago, how important those would be in defining and explaining a component of who you are. This goes back to what I’ve always felt was one of the huge powers of still photography: the power of freezing time so we can go back and visit an era at our leisure. Using a filter of documentary photography, I may approach an old shoot so as to keep images that I feel contain a narrative important to that time. If an important situation, I may keep a few more. Now, with the luxury of time, I have spent the several days going through those photos. Many of my images are with a stock photography agency (the stock world has been devastated, but that’s another long story) How do I fill my time? Co-founder of our FirstLight Workshop, my business partner, as well as my wife, Becky has been gently suggesting for years that I clean out my multiple file cabinets, a repository for film over my decades-long profession. Since that time, I’ve had a number of international trips cancelled, both via National Geographic Expeditions and our FirstLight Workshop. In January of this year, as an Expert on a National Geographic Expedition, I photographed in 11 countries. Last year I shot in 31 countries, for National Geographic Expeditions and our own FirstLight Workshop. What do we do to creatively and constructively fill the time? As a location and travel photographer, this has really impacted me and others in this world of photography very hard. Social distancing or a complete isolation has forced on us an abundance of time. I could get PM again and explore more functions, or go cheap and simple with Apollo One but maybe there's something else out there now.Everything in our world has been turned upside down. These seem like very simple functions to me that ideally the Mac could still handle natively in Finder but hey ho. To be fair Finder is fast on the M1 but I like the full screen and even slideshow option with PM and Apollo One. This is the point of the thread post I guessĪnother big feature for me is culling fast, selecting ideally with one button, or as in Apollo One it's cmd+1 (iirc) and after I can delete all those I've selected for trash. It's possibly going to be purchased as it's only 25.99 and might be my new best option. I no longer have Adobe bridge which was decent at that, as well as manual re-ordering of images in the browser (something I use Name Changer which has an image browser you use to move images around as you wish prior to renaming, albeit slightly awkward).Īpollo One has a sort by EXIF (Date Time Digitized) option which works for me better than Creation Date but until I purchase it I can't rename. It works way better than Finder (Mac) which often fails to order the images correctly, even though the camera clocks are synced. ![]() I no longer use it for ingesting so that's not a problem but I do like the ability to sort by Capture Time as a job usually has images from at least two SD cards. ![]() ![]() I have been using Photo Mechanic for years now but barely using 10% of what it does so started looking around again to see what else is out there now I'm using a new Mac. Tldr: What do you use for sorting by camera time, re ordering manually, and culling?
